What can you do to participate in debate? A debate is a formal discussion about a specific topic, usually with a moderator and an audience. The debate is typically focused on arguments in support of the other side. This kind of discourse is often extremely informative. It's encouraged for participants to take part in discussions. It is a good way get to know about different ideas and also to get your voice heard on controversial topics.

Before starting a debate, make sure you have an argument you're sure of. Be sure that your arguments are convincing and you have evidence to back them up. Think about counter arguments that can be made to support the opposing team's argument. Arguments must be accompanied by a counter. If you're not confident about your argument, the public will notice this and you'll lose credibility.

Another reason to participate in debate is that you'll develop a wide range of listening and speaking skills. If you're a public speaker or an academic, debate will help you develop the skills that you require to communicate well in a public setting. You'll also get valuable knowledge of preparing and delivering convincing arguments. You will also learn how to effectively communicate with your audience during debate.
